# Creating a Stand-alone Built in Forwarding Proxy

To enable support for non-Java platforms (such as PHP, .NET, CGI and so on), Composable Agentic Platform can be installed as an appliance instead of a plug-in. The built in forwarding proxy has all of the benefits of the plug-in with the exception of being able to interact with the applications session. To balance this, the appliance has the ability to create its own session to track a user’s online experience.

The following section outlines the details of creating an instance of the appliance on any given hardware, using Ubuntu Linux as the platform. Instructions for other distributions may vary.
